The benefits of bonded warehouses
Flexibility
The temporary storage of goods provides greater leeway for management and some payments can be deferred
Optimisation
For example, you can consolidate goods from different sources and subsequently distribute them together, leading to a reduction in transport costs
Types of bonded warehouses
The most common are:
1
Temporary Bonded Warehouse (TBW)
Imported goods can be stored for a maximum period of 90 days without having to pay VAT or tariffs. Once this term has elapsed, the goods must be assigned to a customs destination: they can be totally or partially cleared for consumption, they may continue in transit to another customs facility, put in other warehouses or be re-exported.
2
Public Bonded Warehouse Type A (PBW)
Goods that have not yet been through all the required customs procedures can be stored here, and the payment of tariffs or VAT can be deferred until the cargo has been totally or partially cleared. There is no time limit in the warehouse here.
3
Oher than Public Bonded Warehouse Type A
Goods can be stored in this modality of warehouse that are not subject to tariffs or normal customs taxes or are subject to special customs procedures, such as goods in transit or goods intended for re-export The difference with type 2, is that in this case the cargo may be customs-cleared.
4
Facility Authorised for Export Goods (LAME in Spanish)
Goods can be cleared for export without actually going through customs, since the facility has been authorised by customs authorities. This type is used extensively in LCL cargo.
